While Tripp writes a theologically sound tome, the basic premise "A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens" fails to deliver. This book is very long on theological discussions on the state of the human heart and the state the teen's heart. It repeatedly points to the natural propensity of the human heart to seek after sin and rebellion and only through training and the active intervention of the Holy Spirit does the heart chase after holiness. What it lacks is the Guide part. There is no practical advise on how to address the realities of teen life.

Amazing book for anyone guiding teenagers. This will train a parent to seize those unpleasant moments and go from sending quarreling siblings to opposite ends of the house, to getting to the root of their strife. Mr. Tripp likens our families to God's training ground for placing a Biblical world view into our children. So that everything they are interpreting can be viewed through and held up to the grid of God's Word. This book is not for the faint of heart. This is a "roll up your sleeves and get dirty" book. It's a "take a good look at your own heart/example first" book. I've been convicted so many times throughout the book. God didn't give us children so that we could raise them, but so that He could finish raising us! It is a book that gave me so much confidence and direction and allowed me top go from frustration to a plan that's was calmly executed. It is filled with scripture! I've started giving them out to people who have teenagers. Thank you, Mr. Tripp!

My husband and I led this study with a group at church. 25 of us went through it together over 3 months. At times, it's very challenging - this isn't one that waves a wand, or makes easy promises. This is about recognizing several biblical truths and then working on them.I was drawn to this because I was just sad at hearing people say "Buckle the seatbelt, you'll get the kids back when they are 19." Well, by then they'd be in college, then married... so that's it then? Kiss goodbye to the previously great relationship just because they hit teen years? I was looking for a better answer. This gave a lot of hope, and a lot of answers. As I said, they are not easy answers and take work. Are you willing? The premise behind it is that God is the God of every little thing, and it's the little things in life that provide the most and best teaching moments - and they are everywhere!Second, kids have a way of pushing buttons and revealing to us things we don't like about ourselves (anger, pride etc). Often we'll blame the kids, but God gives us that opportunity to work on ourselves as well as help our teens. It's filled with great biblical guidance for our families, the community within our families and our teens directly. It's a long term solution, one that will carry through guiding your kids to the day they leave home and beyond.

I have a nine year old, and I wish I had bought this book years ago. I think waiting until teen years to start these strategies is waiting too long! I will be reading and re-reading this book. I am a counselor by profession, so I have been well-trained in how to listen and communicate. ;) However, there is always room to grow and learn, and I have gleaned so much from this book just a few chapters in. Already I have modified the way that I listen to, and communicate with, my maturing kiddo. I love the perspective of scrapping the 'survival' attitude of raising a teen, to considering it DAILY a privilege and opportunity to share the GOSPEL, with and without words. Love, love, love this.

GREAT BOOK! online study is on their website. A MUST for parents raising kids entering into teenage years. Theme is more about howto be the best parent you can be more than fixing your child. Humbling and a great book for us. My kids are responding well to some of the approaches I adopted taken from this book. I already see a changed heart and mindset.

I led a group of moms through reading and discussing Age of Opportunity. We were all impressed by this book. It does remain true to biblical values, but without legalism. We liked that he doesn't just talk about theory but also is heavy on practical suggestions, especially near the end. We also really liked the fact that his mindset is not "How do we deal with these kids biblically?" but "Wow, what an amazing opportunity you have while your kids are teens! Use it!"

I bought this book because I have children reaching their teens but also found this pertains to pre-teens as well. I am always looking for good biblical advise on raising my kids. This book goes to the core of human nature. It is practical and eye opening in helping parents to understand their children. It also makes the parent look at themselves, their responsibilities and possible shortcomings. The Bible is the core of the author's ideology, it is not watered down. Many Bible verses are referred to throughout the writing. I found this book to be one of the most helpful in child raising that I have read. This will be one of my go to books for the years to come. (Don't wait until your kids are teens buy this ahead of time, you will be glad you did)

This is a great book. It has helped me see things along with scripture in a different way. Gives me hope that the teen years won't be so bad. I just have to change my perspective and be consistent.
