In this book, Edmund Morgan traces the history of the Puritans from their beginnings in sixteenth-century England through developments in seventeenth-century New England. He gives special attention to their quest to purify the church so that its membership would more closely approximate the true and perfect church of Christ.Morgan tells us that his title, Visible Saints, is a term that occurs frequently in the writings of the Puritans. More than that, quoting Geoffrey Nuttall, he asserts that this phrase "was undoubtedly their controlling idea and provides the key to what they were after" (vii-viii). Morgan explains that the fundamental question the Puritans raised actually goes back at least as far as the ancient church and the Donatist schism. The Donatists tried to relieve the tension between the ideal and the real by establishing and maintaining what they asserted were "holy" Christian communities. Famously, Augustine responded by insisting that there are at all times, in fact, two churches: one is pure, unmixed, but invisible, while the other is visible, but mixed and impure. In other words, although the Lord knows those who are his, the church doesn't. With a few radical exceptions, says Morgan, the Puritans "never repudiated St. Augustine's distinction between the visible and invisible church. They all insisted on the impossibility of a church without blemish in this world" (33). They nevertheless carried out a unique attempt to further the reformation of the visible church so that it would more closely resemble the invisible.Eventually, there emerged among the Puritans two distinct groups: nonseparatists, who sought ecclesiastical reform while retaining membership in the Church of England, and separatists, who believed that their national church was hopelessly corrupt and that, above all, it lacked the essential quality of the true visible church: namely, the capacity of a congregation to discipline itself under the Word of God.Among separatists, one question in particular naturally arose: who is worthy to belong to the church? What should be the terms of membership? At first, the conditions of membership appear to be a simple renunciation of the English Church and a promise not to attend the parish congregation. However, although all Puritans assumed that the invisible church was made up precisely of those people who had experienced the saving grace of God, early separatists made no attempt to determine the religious experiences of prospective members. The standards of membership were orthodox faith, voluntary submission to the discipline of the congregation, and the absence of obvious, gross sin.In time, all Puritans eventually developed an ideal and practice of church membership which tested every candidate's experience of saving grace. The author notes that historians have typically believed that this practice was followed by the separatists who fled to Holland, and that it came in 1620 with the Pilgrims who, in turn, influenced later arrivals. Morgan's thesis disagrees with this traditional account:My contention is that the practice came, not from Plymouth to Massachusetts as initially supposed, nor from England or Holland as presently assumed, but that it originated in Massachusetts among the nonseparating Puritans there and spread from Massachusetts to Plymouth, Connecticut, New Haven, and back to England (65-66).Regarding Puritanism in America, Morgan says that in the 1620s and even the 1630s, membership in both separatist and nonseparatist churches did not require a description and test of a prospective member's experience of saving grace. Yet, around 1640 and afterwards, this procedure was the norm. If the new system was well established in the 1640s, but was not known in 1629, how did it come to be? Morgan suggests that the idea was likely developed by George Phillips, minister at Watertown who came to America with John Winthrop in 1630. At any rate, within a few years the practice was forcefully advocated by John Cotton so that, by 1635, it was the norm in New England. There, churches "held it a duty to exclude from the church everyone who failed to persuade them in speech or writing that he possessed saving grace" (93).Morgan points out how his thesis helps to explain other developments in the history of early New England Puritanism. For example, the uniquely-American movements and episodes associated with Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were radical extensions of the emergent New England religion. Hutchinson and her followers believed that God had granted them the ability to judge perfectly the professions offered by candidates for membership so that, in their community, the visible and invisible churches were one and the same. The development of the so-called "the halfway covenant" can also be traced back to the standards of membership first recognized in New England. Morgan explains:The absence of ties between the unregenerate part of the community and the church gave the latter an unprecedented purity, but it also placed the very life of the church in jeopardy. The members of the New England churches had themselves come from imperfect churches, in which they had learned the doctrines of Christianity, had taken the sacraments and received the experience of grace that qualified them for membership in the proper churches of New England. But how would the mass of men who had come to New England unqualified for membership ever become qualified? (122).What ultimately forced the question of the church's responsibility to outsiders was the next generation, the children of New England Puritans. They had grown up baptized members of the church. But according to the new standards developed in America, many of them lacked the experience that would qualify them for membership. And what of their children, the grandchildren of founding members? "The Puritans had in fact moved the church so far from the world that it would no longer fit the biological facts of life" (128).A 1662 synod attempted to remedy the problem. The proceedings from the synod said that church members' adult children who had not experienced saving grace should continue to be regarded as members of the church, and that they could bring their own children to be baptized, provided that the family did not live an outwardly scandalous life. Such members could not, however, vote. Nor could they participate in the Lord's Supper. This odd arrangement, generated by Puritan commitment to both infant baptism and a church made up entirely of saints, epitomized and reinforced a tension in American Puritanism that, as late as the mid-eighteenth century, lacked any real resolution. In the "Preface," Morgan explains that his book "originated as the Anson G. Phelps Lectures, delivered at New York University, in February and March, 1962" (viii). From beginning to end, Visible Saints retains a good bit of the engaging style of a fine set of lectures. Occasional comments in the text as well as footnoted sources indicate that Morgan conducted extensive and, in many cases, exhaustive research in the relevant primary sources available to him. The result of his careful and logical analysis is a convincing and delightful little book that has apparently become a classic in Puritan studies.

For anyone with interest in the subject, Morgan will prove an informative, clear, and fair guide to the historical progression of Puritan thought and practice around church, church membership, and the relationship between the church and the world.

Instead of trying to cover the totality of Puritan experience, the author focuses on a few crucial topics. What motivated the Puritans? What were they trying to accomplish? He illuminates the differences between the different branches of Puritanism: Separatists (the Pilgrims), who believed that each and every church should stand alone; Congregationalists (the majority of those who settled the rest of Massachusetts and formed the Massachusetts Bay Colony), who believed in a loose affiliation of churches, and Presbyterians, who wanted a rigid church hierarchy. He also illustrates how the beliefs and practices of each group evolved over time. If you want to really understand some of our most famous ancestors, this relatively slender volume is a must read.

In just a few bold strokes, Morgan manages to outline how American Puritanism is embedded in English Puritanism and how, nonetheless, it also differs. Some readers may consider this difference as progress, others may not. But it is well, decades after this book first came out, to remember the embedding. Americans studying the Puritans (and the Pilgrims, for that matter) are far too prone to view the subsequent American Revolution as the magnetic pole organizing all phenomena. Morgan's book helps one see this is anachronistic.

True story of puritans in early America.

Morgan's study focuses on important concepts within the history of Christianity in Colonial New England. What were the requirements for belonging to the church? And related to this, who could be baptized and receive the Lord's Supper? Morgan supplies the answers to these questions in a readable style. Further, for the most part, he reflects on these questions in terms of what the Puritans themselves believed. In short, this is a book that anyone interested in the history of Christianity in Colonial America, especially Calvinist-oriented Christianity, will want to read.

TITLE: Visible Saints: The History of a Puritan IdeaAnyone wishing to understand the founding Puritans of Massachusetts should not miss this classic.

Edmund S. Morgan may be dead now but his books will live on long after because like this one he educates us readers in so many ways. The Puritan idea is still alive in our American society and we may be the richer for it.

I really agonized on how many stars I should give this novel and I decided to go with a five because I realized that just because I didn't like the subject matter, I needed to judge the book on its merits. That being said it is a well written book that kept me reading even when it upset me. I could not put it down, literally. It also wasn't the kind of book that one wants to necessarily to read, it says "dark romance", it's dark but this is not a romance. It is a tale of abuse from the perspective of both the abuser and the abused. I'm going to attempt to describe the main characters according to what I thought they were like. Our "hero" Julian, what a sadistic, controlling, emotionally vacant person. This is your "typical" love story (cough cough) boy sees girl boy thinks she looks like his dead girlfriend, boy kidnaps girl takes her to island in the South Pacific and keeps her there for over a year. During that year he rapes her, beats her (he's a sadist) and threatens her into behaving by threatening the innocent lives of others....that's just the first book...I'm not even going to talk about second two. Like I said, he is a controlling, obsessive, sadistic psychopath....sure he had a horrible childhood but damn. Julian was never going to be normal because of his upbringing, NEVER! He's a criminal. Ok, enough of his bad qualities, his good ones are that he's hot, rich and has a big penis...I mean it, that's it. He is a despicable character, he's obsessed with the girl and doesn't realize that what he feels is love. With even all that the author manages to make his character almost (a big almost) sympathetic. When we see things from his POV, you can see how he thinks and because of that you can see just how (expletive deleted) he is.The heroine Nora, wow! Poor girl, talk about wrong place, wrong time. She is kidnapped, raped multiple times, beaten and is made to endure psychological trauma. From the beginning she trys to think of ways to get away, trys to remain strong but really in situations like that it'd be hard for anyone. She develops Stockholm Syndrome and starts to love and need her capturer, some would think that that is being weak but double damn, how would anyone remain mentally strong. She's an innocent, caring, strong willed person who's in a hopeless situation and who makes the best out of it. (If that can be possible)There are people in this world who are just like Julian, uncaring and unfeeling, people who kill innocent people, people who kill whole families as a message to keep others in line or for revenge. There are people in this world who have no compunction in taking what they want, no matter who it affects. This book does not flinch away from this reality and presents this in a heartbreaking way and even though I will think about the characters often, I don't know if I could read it again anytime soon.In attempting to gather my thoughts on how I should proceed in my review I had conflicting views, I couldn't quite do it and I'm sure at some point(s) I will edit this review. It is a captivating read, you can't but help but think about the characters and try to imagine yourself in that situation and what you would do if you were in Nora's situation. I would recommend this book but beware it is heartbreaking and a hard read. There is a "happily " ever after but the journey, man, what a terrifying ride.

Not so much a romance as a blueprint for brainwashing. 17 yr old girl kidnapped by an arms dealer to a remote island. Raped, beaten, tortured, isolated and inactivity. Receiving occasional positive reinforcement (not beaten that day) she learns to respond to whatever pleases him. Since he was only attracted to her because of her looks it doesn't really matter what kind of personality she matures into. She learns to like pain and he likes to give it. I didn't like she ends up pregnant ( up until then she had 3year BC device inserted under the skin that was removed by the terrorists that kidnapped her from him) these are 2 people who get off on pain and they are going to have a child. He is so obsessed with her that he has trackers inserted into her even though they live in a remote inescapable location, but he needs to know where she is every second. I can't picture him sharing her with a child. More than likely be will convince her to hurt and kill the child.

This trilogy isn't a conventional love story, but a dark romance, so take care if this isn't your thing as the captor/captive theme remains throughout the books. The male lead, Julian, kidnaps Nora as she reminds him of someone special from his childhood. He whisks her away to his private island where she is help captive where he tries to come to terms with his obsessive, psychotic personality. I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Julian as he was a strong male lead, but obviously a bit of a bastard. I liked the twists and turns in the books and Julian's determination to hold on to Nora. Nora is conflicted throughout the books, both being captivated by his good looks, strong personality and overwhelming need for her, while holding her against her will and dominating every decision in her life. I must admit, this frustrated me a lot at times as she knew she shouldn't have feelings for him, but did, even though he was an absolutely hateful prat at times. I had a bit of a problem with him making decisions about her body for her and against her will at times and I felt she got over these instances a bit too quickly for it to be more credible. She gave up a lot throughout the book and this frustrated me at times, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, as I found it was either glossed over or I found it a bit contrary. It was also a bit unbelievable how Nora went from a vanilla lifestyle to needing Julian's particular, rough style of romance. Pretty sure this would be a mental disorder in the real world and her friends and family would be contacting the authorities lol. I liked how the setting changed at times and how Julian tried to grow as a man to be what Nora needed. I'm glad I bought the trilogy because it was great to head straight into the next book as I needed to. I have never read anything by this author before and going by this trilogy, I will happily purchase more books from her.

It was so difficult to even make it through the first book. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this book. The sexy scenes are brutal, absolutely devoid of consent, and everything in between is plotless. There is no character development other than the main character getting brainwashed into loving her kidnapper. I kept waiting for the escape scene and it never came. Was not worth my time, and I feel misled by all of the 5-star ratings.

This book is not for everyone, it is definitely a twisted love story. Julian, abducts, uses and falls for Nora a headstrong but submissive and young girl. Violence, pain, death and passion I believe best describes the chapters in this book. Read at your own risk!

If you like a story about a kidnap victim falling in love with their kidnapper, you will like this book. I did not like it at all. The plot was dumb, the bedroom antics were disturbing, and it was not written well.

Definitely well laminated and durable. The only thing I don't like is where the folds are they have the map cut with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap on each of the six blocks. Works good for quick reference on road trips - definitely not for detailed local driving.

These maps are quite detailed (more than a standard map atlas in my opinion, but probably a little less than a huge fold out paper map). They offer most all the roads an out of state traveler would ever need to know about. I use a GPS, but my wife likes to follow along on the map and the map gives us a much better overview than the GPS can. These maps fold so easily. And if you spill something on it, no problem. Just wipe it off.

I love these state maps. Personally I like having a map I can hold and read when traveling. These fold nicely and store in the glove compartment. We like these when we are RVing.

Love the laminated map. Easy to store.

love the laminated map

Excellent quality! I bought these for my car. Digital maps are not as effective when driving in unfamiliar terrain. Regular maps are no longer sold at gas stations. Not ever getting lost again. ...

I bought this for My bike. It's waterproof and does not take up a lot of room in my saddlebag. Great back-up for my GPS.

Just wish it was larger since I mostly use them for planning routes.

Review

An intriguing book, very well written, well structured, entertaining and sometimes even challenging... a delightful and often humorous account of the author's evolving relationship with Italy as he comes to grips with everyday reality there... anecdotes provide both humour and vivid images of Italians and Italian life.―Judges of the Grollo Ruzzene Foundation PrizeThis is a funny and touching tale about the cultural divide with a sweet and passionate love story at its heart. For all those who have ever had a brief holiday in Italy and said, 'You know, I could really live here,' read this and know that it may not be that easy. And for those who know Italy intimately and love her all the same, enjoy Head Over Heel and its taste of la dolce vita"―The Courier MailHarrison manages to get right under Italy's skin without stereotyping the people he meets and situations he finds himself in... Many have written books about their experiences living in foreign climes but few have done it as entertainingly, beautifully and - surprisingly - romantically as Harrison does here.―Sydney Morning Herald & Melbourne AgeDramatic, sensual and affectionately amusing, Head Over Heel is as good as a holiday.―John Bell, The Bell Shakespeare Company

There are obviously tons of memoirs about Italy because it's, well, it's Italy. From the first time I went, long ago, until now, I'm hooked on the country, and thus I've read many of those books about moving to Italy---and some are very good. But this one is exceptional. Maybe partly because I had (and still have) no idea who Chris Harrison is, Maybe partly because he's young, and not a retired academic or Brit. I am just knocked out with the quality of his writing, the keenness of his insights, and his wit. (Plus, it's a good love story that a man can enjoy.)If you like Italy, particularly the southern part, you'll really enjoy this book. I'd give it more stars if that were possible. But truthfully I haven't quite even finished the book, and that's because my wife has commandeered my kindle for the night so SHE can read it. (She loves Italy as much as I do, and is even pickier about the quality of the writing she reads.) Next trip, I'll be sure she doesn't forget HER Kindle!

First of all I will admit that I have read many books in the Travel Memoir genre, and most of those are about Italy. Within that small group, most authors will write about the beauty, food, architecture...all those things that we know Italy is already famous for-and the tales they tell are meant to seduce you and to make you want to visit. The approach Chris Harrison has taken is different. Yes, he talks about the beauty, architecture, and the food, but he also presents the gritty side of Italy. The side that only one who has lived there can understand and appreciate for what you can learn from it. The reader that will appreciate this book most is someone who has lived there for a short time as I have, or the British/Australian/American ex-pat who currently lives in Italy and has a love-hate relationship with the country. I have spent the winter in Milan and know just how dreary it can be there, but unlike Chris I also appreciate Milan for the hidden loveliness that can be found behind the pollution stained exterior of most buildings.Harrison also is brutally honest in writing about the discrimination between the North and the South of Italy, but tempering the ugly realities of that situation with a description of a wonderful, warm 'festa' that unites both North and South by the end of the book. I say BRAVO Chris Harrison for being able to put into words the feelings of so many of us that have lived there and tried to explain how Italy all at once frustrates and fascinates us.Lest this review seem too serious, I must say that I laughed out loud many times while reading this book-more so during the parts where he explains in detail his frustration with the government and bureaucracy as it does seem too ridiculous to be true...but it IS real life and humor is sometimes the only way to deal with that level of irony. An enjoyable read from cover to cover.

When Christopher Harrison (Crris Arrison with an H in front) met Daniela at a pub in Ireland, he was so taken with her southern Italian beauty that he moved to the heel of the boot to live with her. The book is nonfiction and many of the frustrations that he experienced (getting a work permit, dealing with the tax collectors, a drivers license and an overnight stay in the hospital) had me laughing out loud yet cringing at the thought of dealing with so much corruption and needless red tape. I also gained an insight into my own family as I saw the intractable stubbornness of my Sicilian father and my mother's obsession with "fare la bella figura" (making a proper showing) as being part of their Italian DNA.I am a lover of all things Italian but, as a tourist in the land of my grandparents, I never encountered life as Chris Harrison did. In spite of it all, the writer revealed the quirks and problems with Italy in such a way that his frustration with and simultaneous love of the country were apparent. I agree with another reviewer in that I enjoyed this book more than those written by Frances Mays as her books paint a glowing picture of Italy that can only be experienced by one who has enough money to smooth out the speed bumps along the way.Chris Harrison is a wonderful writer and I look forward to more books about his life with Daniela.

I love all of Italy. Its sameness and differences from region to region make it both interesting and challenging but always mesmerizing and fun. The author truly makes us feel the emotions of change, loving someone, and acceptance no matter where the experiences occur. The tale starts in the big northern city of of Milan, but he especially expresses how deep the roots go in a small southern Italy town where he tries to fit in while falling in love with his future wife, her family and the inhabitants. The transition is exasperating at times while being adventurous, amusing and ultimately more fulfilling than originally anticipated. This book makes me want to return once again to the wonderful towns south of Naples where the people, places, food, wine, and incredible geography warms the heart and mellows the soul. Bravo on telling this beautiful, true yet realistic story.

I bought this book because I was going to stay a week in Puglia and knew almost nothing about the area. This book is delightful! He falls in love with a girl from a small town, then comes back to be with her, living in southern Italy and Milan. His descriptions are very engaging and some of them made me laugh out loud, they were so good. This book made a nice companion to my trip, as his adventures with Daniela take him all over Puglia and also for a short while, to Milan. He writes with such affection--for Daniela and her family and friends, but also for Italy, with all its wonderfulness and its frustrations.

First, let me offer a clinical definition of sex. "Sex is the mental and or physical stimulation of nerve ends, creating electrochemical energy resulting in pleasurable sensations in the genitalia AND OTHER SEXUAL RESPONSES." In The Holy Letter,Nahmanides recommends lying North-South. Perhaps being in line with the earth's magnetic field may aid the ions in their pursuit of genetic expression. What impressed me most as a Protestant--I protest everything--was the Hebrew translation of Leviticus 12:2: "When a woman has an emission..." This is the first reference to female ejaculatory orgasms in Western Literature! It is attributed to Moses (1425 BCE) and thought by some to first be transcribed from the oral tradition by Ezra around 1000 BCE. However, most scholars today suggest it was first transcribed around 400 BCE. It was around 400 BCE when Hippocrates came up with the "double seed" theory. This said male ejaculate and female ejaculate each contained seeds needed for conception of a child. Ergo, the only way a woman could have a child was if both parties ejaculated! Galen (200 CE) confirmed this. The Roman Church from its inception in 325 CE, promoted female ejaculatory orgasm for purposes of procreation until 1770 when a scientist successfully artificially inseminated a water spaniel. Granted, this position was weakened by Leeuwenhoek in the late 1660's when he could only see male sperm under the microscope. But this was blown off because women were inferior and probably had smaller seed. When the KJV was written in 1611, it says, "When a woman conceive a seed..." Now, you know what that means. The point is for 3000 years--and probably thousands before that--women had ejaculatory orgasms as a matter of course. They've only been shut down for the past 200 years or so. I find it strange that Christianity, especially the Roman Church that keeps marriage as a sacrament, treats sex so profanely, when many pagan religions treat it as sacred. Nahmanides also recommends an attitude of reverence for the woman and the act. In Tantra, the vulva is called the "yoni" which means the sacred place. It is regrettable that even many in Judaism treat sex so profanely. There are rewards beyond men's wildest dreams for showing respect, reverence and love for your wife. I touch upon them in The Sacred Female.

While it is interesting we don't know who the author is. The book expresses a point of view but not necessarily a definitive one. More something for a scholar to mull over than a manual for anyone. Nice seeing original Hebrew and the (good) translation.

A MUST FOR ALL THE JEWISH COUPLES WHO REALLY DO NOT KNOW THE WHAT IS PERMITTED AND WHAT NOT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE REAL JEWISH WAY AND LAWSSHOULD READ IT

This is a translation of a famed Kabbalistic letter attributed to Nachmanides (Moses ben Nachman) including a lengthy introduction describing the history of the work (1/3 of book) & an English translation side-by-side with Hebrew. The translator, former President of the Rabbinical Assembly of Conservative Judaism, argues that its author was Joseph Gikatilla (vs. Avraham Feuer's translation, "A Letter for the Ages"). The Letter draws from Biblical/Talmudic sources & employs Kabbalistic ideas & terms. It addresses the purpose, nature, time, diet, intention, & quality of the sex act. It rejects Maimonides & p. 74: "the accursed Greek" Aristotle's contention that touch is shameful. Rather, p. 72: "The sexual intercourse of man with his wife is holy & pure when done properly, in the proper time & with the proper intention" & p. 92: "The sages said when a man unites with his wife in holiness, the Shekhinah is between them in the mystery of man & woman." However, p. 94: "the divine presence leaves them when the act is for sexual pleasure alone." It also says that too much sex weakens a man, late Sabbath evening is the best time, to not have sex after eating, to not overeat, & to have the bed north-south.It has some gems of wisdom-- pp. 108-110: "The master of true wisdom knows that extremes are not prudent & the qualities of moderation are most desirable" & p. 110: "Solomon said, `be not righteous overmuch; neither make yourself otherwise" (Ecclesiastes 7:16) & Kabbalistic metaphysics-- p. 122: "When an animal is slaughtered for human consumption, it is for the animal's good, for it rises from the level of the body of an animal to the level of the body of a man." On the other hand it argues enigmatically that p. 136: "The thought of sin is more grievous than the sin itself (Yoma 29a)," & shows primitive understanding of human physiology & genetics (it WAS written in the Middle Ages) such as techniques for conceiving male children & attributing birth of a black child to white parents because the curtains in the room were black--so they thought of black during conception! Thus, it juxtaposes profound insight with superstition, & fantasy. Its anachronisms shed light on the development of knowledge & understanding, though they may seem rather quaint today.

Psychological Management of Chronic Headaches

Review

"This is an exceptional volume that succeeds in synthesizing research with treatment of the very common but extremely difficult problem of chronic headaches. Rarely does an author write a text that will be of equal interest to health care providers and clinical investigators. In this provocative book, Dr. Paul R. Martin provides a unique instance of the exception to the rule. He has written a comprehensive and systematic review of the literature on chronic headaches specifying the many inconsistencies in the available research, identifying alternative explanations for the equivocal results of studies, and suggesting questions that remain to be answered. The systematic review and critique of the literature presented in this volume will provide clinical investigators with many new insights and should generate a multitude of research studies. On the basis of available data, Dr. Martin presents a functional approach to the assessment and treatment of chronic headaches that integrates current state of knowledge into a practical therapeutic intervention. Health care providers will find a great deal of assistance in their clinical activities. The clinical material is prescriptive and presented in sufficient depth so that it can be readily translatable into the practice of any health care provider. This outstanding volume should be required reading for any health care professional who conducts research or treats people with recalcitrant headaches. Dr. Martin has made a major contribution to our understanding of chronic headaches and suggested a practical and promising approach to treatment for this population." --Dennis C. Turk, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh Medical Center"This comprehensive survey of literature will serve as a helpful reference for clinicians and researchers interested in psychological factors in headache. The reader is likely to find much of interest here. The clinical advice offered is often provocative and helpful. The research summaries helpfully organize relevant findings. And the functional model of headache is likely to stimulate both clinicians and researchers to pay greater attention to variables that influence headache episodes. Irrespective of whether the reader accepts or rejects the functional model of headache Dr. Martin offers here, they are likely to find the research summaries and clinical material presented of interest." --Kenneth A. Holroyd, Ph.D., Ohio University"Psychological Management of Chronic Headaches outlines a much-needed systemic perspective for the management of chronic headache disorders. The author carefully identifies the complex determinants of migraine and tension-type headache symptoms and provides the clinician with a functional framework for organizing interventions for the individual patient. The presentation is thorough and personal and reflects the author's extensive empirical and clinical experience with headache sufferers." --Donald Bakal, Ph.D., University of Calgary
