This book is fantastic- it is a thorough and in depth look at what you need to do to make money on Ebay. It is ideal for both beginners and experienced Ebay sellers. Although I have been selling on Ebay for some time, I picked up several nuggets of advice worth their weight in gold. I have sold a few things that I bought off of Alibaba (a website where you can link up with wholesalers and manufacturers), but am looking to take it to the next level, and this book is perfect for me.If you are new to Ebay, the author takes you through all the steps necessary to set up an account and start selling. From there we learn a solid method of raising 500 dollars in starting capital. The author then covers the best ways to get top dollar from your auctions, product sourcing (where to find stuff to sell), how to figure out what items are in high demand, being a true professional with your buyers, beating your competition, and scaling up so that you can increase your income once you are starting to sell a few items.The advice on getting top dollar from your auctions is priceless. I have run +/- 300 or so auctions, yet I picked up a few things that will help me to get better sale prices. The advice on product sourcing is also outstanding- it is not just the "go to a garage sale " stuff you will find in other books on the topic (although it covers garage sales too), but rather it thoroughly covers finding and working with wholesalers, buying retail closeouts, buying lots on ebay, dealing direct with manufacturers, and a few other product sources as well.In particular, the advice on figuring out what products to sell is absolutely awesome. I won't tell you his technique, but it will have you easily knowing exactly what is hot and what is not on ebay at any given point in time.It does not sugar coat things and make it sound too easy (unlike a number of other books on the topic), but rather very realistically points out that it is a business like any other- and just like any other business, you must be persistent and stay ahead of the competition by keeping your finger on the pulse of what is selling and what is not (and he tells us exactly how to do this).In short, this is an excellent book for those who want to begin making money on Ebay, or for those who (like me) are making some money but want to take it to the next level. Highly recommended!

Yes, I am a Nicaraguan resident. I started the process in November, 2013 by going to the immigration office. After seeing the wall of requirements I went to a lawyer. He agreed to help me for $500, then dropped my case to take on a higher-paying gig. So what I did was to tough it out, starting at the top and working my way down the requirements list until I had everything. Some things weren’t correct and I had to do them over. Some things were required and then weren’t. Still other documents were needed last-minute and then there were the fees. And signatures. And translations. And then my dog got ahold of my papers and, well, that dog now has a new home. Helping people is what I love doing. My day job is building schools in rural Nicaragua. For five years before that I was bringing light and clean water to communities in this country. I love Nicaragua and I love showing people what this country has to offer. And if you love this country enough to consider becoming a resident then I would love to get to know you. I live here. In Managua, actually. My home is the same one that my wife has been living in since she was born. Our kids go to school here. My Spanish has gotten pretty good even though I still have trouble understanding country accents. I love it so much that I convinced my mother, a home-grown little-city girl from Southeast Texas to move to Granada.

Casey Callais's book is worth its weight in precious metals. There is so much about applying for residency that is hazy in Nicaragua; things seem more or less clear, but not quite. The book clears away the haze of the process by laying out the steps and requirements and explains what needs to be done and where. I am delighted that I found it.

Wow, this is everything I was expecting and way more. The information in here is very comprehensive and it has already saved me headaches at the immigration office.The only complaint is that the book is a bit big to fit in my small pack. It would be easier to carry around if it were smaller and fatter to get all of the info in. And there is a LOT of info!If you are thinking of getting residency in Nicaragua, this book is a MUST HAVE.

I found the book very interesting. I would disagree with the reading level, however. It could be read by children in grades 2-4, but understood by somewhat younger children. The references to the various gods could be confusing to children who do not have any previous knowledge of them. The pictures are wonderful and the children I read the book to really enjoyed them. It is a great read-aloud book, and one I am going to use with students in grades 2-6 who are in resource reading classes.

I know of no other study of the 16th century that attempts to as throughly cover everything from French hairdressing to textile design than Norris' work on Tudor costume and fashion. It's a magnificent mess of a book, full of illustrations, odd antidotes and a rambling sort of structure that makes finding things sometimes an entertaining challenge. Despite all this, I think it has a place in very costume history collection.Perhaps the most telling thing about Herbert Norris opus on Tudor dress is that it was first published in the 1930s. Dover's excellent reprint of the work is well worth having on the shelf as an accessory volume to other more modern sources, but it remains very much a work of its era. When Norris was writing, historical dress studies were rarely held to the same academic standards as other branches of historical works. While Norris does provide some limited citation, it is hardly the sort of detailed annotation that a person expects from a historical work today.Many of Norris' claims have been refuted by current scholarship; however, I firmly believe that his clear illustrations and the broad reaching nature of this work redeem it from the flaws of it being nearly 80 years old. It's a good solid work on Tudor costume, but I wouldn't suggest that it be someone's only work on Tudor costume.And, as several people have mentioned, this isn't a pattern book. It won't help you sew stuff.

I've used the Norris book for Medieval Costume before and I love it, and this one is that much more. In addition to plates and figures, that show the costumes in period illustrations, the book is organized by reigns, and includes sections on orders of chivalry, headdresses, hats, shoes, jewelry, and discussions of usage of every part of the costume. The biggest danger is allowing Norris to be your only source, just because it has everything. Enjoy, I have already spent several evenings just perusing the book, and I have several plans for costumes.

One of the bibles of Tudor Era costuming! Lots of detail and research went into this book. The only problem is the organization could have been a little clearer. But I can overlook that due to all the wonderful infomation included.

I loved this book! While it is a comprehensive guide to Tudor era fashions, it is also a great history of the era. I suppose that if you are not interested in history, it might not be what you are looking for. However, if you are a history buff as well as having an interest in the clothing of the time, this is one book you should have.

For dedicated scholars of costume, Norris's book is irritating for two reasons: he seldom lists the sources of his beautifully drawn illustrations, making it difficult to assess their accuracy, and he packs his text with rambling digressions into history and historical anecdotes of dubious authenticity. However, you will never find so much information about Tudor costume for people from all ranks and all walks of life in any other place (especially not for such a low price), and Norris's wonderful black-and-white drawings illuminate for the discerning reader how some of the magnificent ensembles depicted by Van Dyke and Hilliard must have been made. By all means buy this book if you have any interest in Tudor costume, but check Norris against dated sources first if your objective is museum-quality recreation.

This book is a good resource for the serious historic costumer, and fun to peruse through for anyone who enjoys this sort of thing. The reason I do not say this is a good resource for any historic costumer is that not all of the information in here is completely accurate, and if you are trying to recreate an historically accurate costume (or write a paper on historic costume, etc...) you will need to know what things in here you can believe, and what you should be wary about. Many of the terms used to refer to articles of clothing are not terms in standard use in the costuming world today, and some of the information that Norris presents as fact has since been proven wrong. The only reason I still gave this book four stars despite all that I have previously mentioned is that the pictures are wonderful. I have never seen a book that has such a plethora of sketches of so many different things relating to costume. Girdles, headpeices, hair styles, articles of jewelery, embroidery motifs, and trim are all shown in more detail than one can usually see, even in full-page color photographs. Not many of the pictures are in color, but the colors used in the original portraits are described in the accompanying commentary. This book is a good supplementary peice of information, but be careful not to take everything in it as absolute truth.

About the Author

Philip Cushway who conceived Of Poetry and Protest, grew up on the Near North side of Chicago in the early 1960’s in the shadow of the Cabrini-Green Apartments--one of Chicago's most dangerous public housing projects. He saw his first murder at the age of 7 years while walking to school. This experience had a profound effect on him and shaped his view of society as a whole and specifically on the social injustice which plague America's inner cities. As a young adult, he became involved in local Chicago politics, the Anti-Vietnam war movement and the civil-rights movement. When he moved to California in the 1980’s, he purchased one of the largest collections of rare 1960's and 1970's political art and memorabilia which include posters from the Black Panther party and the Students for a Democratic Society. Several examples of this art appear in Of Poetry and Protest: From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin. He is a fine arts publisher and collector who lives in San Francisco.Victoria Smith captured the intimate portraits of the poets in Of Poetry and Protest and is a world-wide freelance photographer based in San Francisco. Her photos have appeared in Rolling Stone, Q, Filter, Guitar World and many other publications.Michael Warr received a Creative Work Fund award for “Tracing Poetic Memory.” He is deputy director of the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco.

Just finished reading "Of Poets and Protest: From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin", and can't say enough good things about this book, I really enjoyed it, I was inspired and impressed with the accomplishments of these artists. I am not a lover of poetry, but this book is so much more and the timing so fitting.Brilliantly, the book is constructed in a way that introduces you to each poet on a personal level first by a biography and beautiful photograph, followed by their poetry. Because of this I was pulled in to each poet's world and felt a connection with each one before reading their poetry. I loved the photographs of the poets, they were very real and personable. I would have not enjoyed the book nearly as much had it just been a compilation of poems. The sprinkling of photographs of vintage posters from the civil rights movement, Black Panther movement, Malcom X and MLK enhanced the book as well.My only complaint if any was the fact that I was left wanting more, I would have enjoyed reading even more poems per person to gain a better sense of their style and message.

Thank you for this book! I got it from the library, first, as I was considering using it for a grad. class in poetics I teach (I'm focusing particularly on writers of color this time around). I ended up not using it for my class, but I bought my own copy of the book nonetheless, because it is stunning. Fabulous photos of the poets, along with an artistic statement from all of them, as well as examples of their work. This book includes some of the finest poets writing in America today, and it is a stunning book for lovers of poetry. If you don't the history of African American poetry and how that is tied to issues of social justice, well, you don't know American poetry, and this book might be a fabulous place to start exploring this rich literary history.

I like having the pictures and the bio in front of me at one time, not separated by having to turn the next page.Content is incredible, pictures are vivid. Font is clean. Pages sturdy as is the book. Also, it arrived on time.

This book is a wonderful level 101 to the who's who from the Black Arts Movement with several more modern contemporaries also featured. I craved to see a more variegated spread of poets and writers of color from different walks of life (including Libya folk) but I was still moved by the short bios and poems.
