I got this book for a Web Applications class, and have found it to serve as an excellent textbook. Like most Microsoft Press Step By Step books it is well written and is written in a way where it seems that the author is talking to you and not just presenting facts. The book starts off with an Intro to Windows Azure (what it is, who it is for, and the benefits of it, and how to use it), the talks about how the Azure servers work and what they use, and then goes into how to deploy your project in the Cloud, and includes using and creating AppFabric solutions, WCF Data Services and OData, and how to use SQL Azure. The book is easy to follow and has numerous screenshots of what the author sees when following the steps, so you can ensure that you are doing it right, by comparing screens.In the end this is an easy to read book, that follows a simple step by step approach, by taking the readers hand and showing them how to do basic tasks, that can later allow the reader to combine these simple tasks to achieve larger projects. The book is well written and has nice screenshots to help ensure that you are on the right track. I found this book quite useful for learning Azure and how this service could benefit me!

This is the best of the three books I've purchased on pin looms.Things I love about this book:- Instructions are sufficient for beginners who might've otherwise been driven to tears (me)- There are plenty of stitch options -- who knew you could do a houndstooth on a simple loom?- The discussion of color with plenty of woven illustrations is excellent -- this will save me a fortune in unfortunate yarn purchases.100 Pin Loom Squares really brings the possibilities to my Zoom Loom -- I am going to have fun!

So, even reading many of the reviews, I ordered this anyway. I was hoping to find a pattern that I have not found anywhere else and thought, maybe. It didn't have the pattern but that is not the reason for 2 stars...and I feel I am being generous with 2. On the upside, it does have pretty clear instructions for the 2 layer weave process and the Houndstooth pattern. Truly, they are out there free on the internet but at least this saved me the time of translating from a graph.As others have stated, there are only a few actual patterns all the rest are color combinations of those patterns. There are a few projects including a couple of sweaters. It gives the size the pattern is for but no help for anyone who might need to size up or down.The biggest issue I have is on one of the patterns the full size photo of the finished (?) square has a very obvious mistake on it. The very top has about 4 missed weaves leaving a big glaring stretch of yarn and dangling loops. Such shoddy work.I took my Xacto knife and sliced out a couple of patterns and the rest went to the recycling bin.If you are truly a beginner, this is just OK for you as well. There are a couple better books out there although you may have to search for them. Your best friend here is Google and Pinterest along with term Pin Loom Weaving.

The title is a bit inaccurate, since there is only 22 unique woven squares, all the rest are the same squares made in different color combinations and different yarns, although it is really nice to see what can be done by changing colors.For each of the 22 patterns, there are four variations in colors. Some use two, and some use three different yarns. There is also a few squares made in plain weave with different kinds of novelty yarns. Except for the novelty yarn squares in plain weave, none of the squares are made in one color and this is what the book really lacks - how do those square look in one color? In the weaving instruction section, the author uses one color for warp and another highly contrasting color for weft for clarity, the same way as in sewing books they stitch white fabric with black thread so the reader could see where the stitching is. But in sewing books there is usually a photo of completed garment made with correct color thread, but not it this book. Show me the squares, please!The book is designed to be used with the Zoom Loom, but it also includes plans on how to make a loom by yourself. The instructions for weaving are clear and nicely illustrated. There is a bunch of projects made with the squares at the end of the book, but I did not like the most of them, although they gave me some ideas on what to do with my squares.

A great reference book for those interested in pin loom weaving. For crafters who also crochet, this book is in the vein of Jan Eaton's "200..." books, which present patterns, then show those patterns in various color combinations; I personally love these types of books because they're more about inspiration than direction, and get you to stretch your ideas around stitch patterns, texture, color... and how all three interact to form a final piece.Overall, I think the book offers a sound starting base of simple patterns for a new pin loom weaver, yet is also a good "idea book" for those who are more advanced. While you can get tons of information (and patterns) for free online, this book is a good, portable addition to a craft library.

I'm a beginner at this craft. I bought this book to help me broden my knowledge and skills at pin weaving. My favorite part of the book was the different stitches. The instructions could have been clearer. I struggled through understanding them. The color combination section was mildly helpful. There's only 2 of the 15 projects that I would do. Overall as a beginner I'm glad I got this book.

Pin loom weaving is a great cold winter night activity for people from ages 8-90+ There were many good photos of various weaving patterns.The featured blanket project is very good. Some of the others projects were not as inspiring to me. This is a good reference book fortechniques.

Instantly hooked! Easy to use, endless crafty possibilities. Can't wait to complete my first project, a lightweight summer baby blanket. Finished 16 squares the first day, I think I need 80. I love how the woven fabric looks and feels.

This book was excellent and gave insight as well as practical suggestions for those with executive functioning disorder. If you are a parent of a child with ADD, ADHD, or ASD, or a combination, this book is a must read. I wish I had had this text earlier.

I am so grateful for the information found in this book! After 10 years of trying to understand what is happening with our sons brain, we can finally read about what has perplexed us all this time. Our son suffered a concussion at age 5 and we never realized nor did his doctors until just recently that he never fully recovered from the concussion. He exhibits many of the Executive Function difficulties and now we have some concrete ways to handle them. Thanks for such an informative book!

I love how this book takes a buzz term like "executive functioning" and breaks it down into manageable chunks of information for the average person. Many people use this term to cover a wide range of issues, but Dr. Branstetter does an excellent job showing that just because a child has issues with one area of executive functioning doesn't mean they have issues in all other areas. Each section provides a checklist so that parents can better identify in which area their child may struggle, and then Dr. Branstetter offers ways to help in each of those areas. As a counselor, this book has changed the way I approach small impulsive groups. I'm better able to get specific information from parents about where their children struggle and then plan my groups to focus on those skills to help those areas of deficit. I recommend this book to each of the parents so they can use it as a resource as well. I can't wait to see more from this author!

Executive Functioning is a new hot topic in education and behavior. Many people have heard of it, but lots of people have a hard time describing exactly what it is. With more and more kids being diagnosed with executive functioning delays - this book is extremely useful for parents and school professionals. It breaks down the different skills that make up executive functioning and describes them clearly with examples. There are questions for parents to help decide whether each of the areas is a concern for their child. Then each skill area has a dedicated chapter with ideas for improving or accommodating a child's struggles. I am a school psychologist who is currently doing private psychological evaluations. The majority of parents and children I've worked with recently have come to me with executive functioning deficit concerns, whether they knew it or not. I have recommended this book to parents, and have gotten great feedback about it's usefulness. I highly recommend this book for parents, teachers, or other professionals working with kids who struggle with executive functioning.

Expected cooler experiments!

great fun with grandkids!

I'm using this for preschool lesson plans on cooking. Some of these are great and some so so. These are NOT for eating, but more for changes in matter from heat, cold and chemicals ( safe easy to aquire such as soda). My kiddos did enjoy the poprock experiments, though when I microwaved them I left them in too long! The book is very nicely set up and organized and I believe an older child(ren) would really have fun with these at home or in a class or summer camp.

Love it students enjoy this on Fridays!

Some of the experiments contain more candy experiment ideas to expand on what is being taught.I found these experiments very informative. The author does an excellent job explaining why the kids are getting the reaction they are out of their candies well enough for the target age group to understand what is going on.The page's are laid out in such a way that it easily attracts the reader's attention and shows them how fun these experiments can be. This book will easily be a hit for any child interested in science and even those who aren't by making science fun.Some fun experiments include making a Gummy Frog Swim, Bend a Straw without touching it and Bending Light.I received this book from Goodreads giveaway for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is an awesome book that allows younger and older kids to use something they love, candy, for interesting experiments. My kids 4 and 7 loved using their Halloween candy to do these experiments. I would highly recommend it for homeschoolers, parents, and teachers alike.

Another fantastic collection of surprising, amazing, crazy things to do with candy. Sweet science sneaks in as kids create candy geysers, cotton candy stained glass, chocolate sawdust and more. Great for snow days, birthday parties, or post-Halloween candy purges, not to mention science fairs.

My husband bought it and we were looking for an experiment for the science fair. The whole book is about putting different types of candy in water or the oven and that's all. Nothing helpful for a 7 year old. Might be used for a 5 year old. I was so disappointed with the book that I threw it away. I regret us wasting money on such a useless book.
