This is a wonderful, fully illustrated book to add in your bookshelf, but only if you like the "dark" side of the japanese contemporary art. Almost all the paintings, illustrations, dolls and figures feature in this book has a dark -nearly gothic- flavor, some of them more sugarish and fantastic, others in the grotesque and decadent scope, but all of them a delight to the senses of those who are looking for new (or different) artistic visions.

Pretty book on quality paper. The reproductions are well done. My compliant is about the content. There was very little variation in either style or subject matter. Every picture was some form of pale, androgynous, pre pubescent, half-clothed child with blood or monsters or blood and monsters. After a while, it got very boring. I picked it up mainly because I like Yamamoto Takato.

First saw it on Moma PS1. Amazon sells it much cheaper. This book is lit. Gave me so much inspiration. But it if you like dark surreal Japanese art.

I'm not a huge fan of the way the studies are broken up since each lesson relates to so many Psalms, but my bigger concern is the questions. They are weak and very opinion-oriented and do not seem to stick very closely to the text at all. We have found ourselves making up our own discussion questions for our studies because the questions are just no-good.

I recently ordered the full set of nine books of the Laura Ingalls Wilder classic Little House series and I am completely thrilled with what I received. After reading so many comments posted by disappointed reviewers, I was skeptical I would be able to get "the real deal" by ordering these from Amazon. The books I received are exactly as I remember owning as a child in the seventies..hardcover with a matching colored jacket, black and white illustrations by the wonderful Garth Williams and each one is everything they should be. In addition, I noticed that the copy of "Little House on the Prairie" is the updated and revised edition, which includes colored illustrations, a short bio about Laura, an introduction to how Garth Williams became the new illustrator for her books, a few songs and a collection of letters written in Laura's own hand. The pages of this book are crisper and whiter, with a bit of gloss on them similar to a higher quality coffee table style book, and the whole book feels a bit heavier than the others. These are truly the classic children's books you'll want to collect and share, and with each one less expensive than the printed cover price, the entire set of nine cost about $12 apiece, a bargain!I bought the entire series by choosing each one separately, rather than just looking for a full set. Even though I had to be careful to pick through all the paperback and kindle versions, after putting hardcover in the search box, you'll see all the titles listed individually. I plan to give them as a set to my niece, beginning her collection with "Little House in the Big Woods" for her sixth birthday this year.Don't be put off by the negative comments written by a few of the reviewers. Just take a little more time searching through the selections, and you'll get exactly what you want!

This has always been my favorite of the Little House books, probably because the Long Winter is behind them, the family is becoming more affluent, and there's so much happening. I love the cat and mouse fight and being part of the little claim shanty becoming a real house on a real farm. And, of course, I love Laura's new experiences in teaching and romance. If you liked any of the other Little House books, you'll like this one, too.

Once again I have heaved a great sigh, even though I am nearing the end of the series, and dread it's arrival, I am ready for the next book to start. This book though reminds me so much of my own journey through my teen years and the trepidation from the idea of starting my adult life away from the safety of home. Being "there" with Laura as she reached and triumphed over life's speed bumps, gave me the courage to face my own. It's why I think all young people should read these books.

I read all 9 of them. I'm 67 years old, but still found them to be very interesting. Life in the 1800s was hard, but these people endured it remarkably well. We of this age would be hard pressed to make it as successfully as they did. These books were inspiring because of the pioneer spirit and endurance. They helped too settle the west. Truly remarkable people. I would have been honored to have known them. I wish there had been more of these books than just the 9.

Just wonderful I never get tired of hearing of what that generation accomplished with perseverance and their values. It should be required reading in all elementary schools.

Not her best book in the series, it seems to go away from the former style of writing that you become accustomed to in the previous books. There is not as much detail of day to day life, instead skipping what seems to be long periods of time.

If the series is read in order, the book is a continuation of a time when people were, for the most part, kind and good to each other, when the family played the part of a complete unit where everyone looked out for everyone else - a better time. Like comfort food is good for the soul, so are the Little House books for the spirit. I love them.

My 4th grade teacher Introduced our class to The Laura Ingalls books in about 1967. My mother enjoyed them too. I recently read this and other Laura Ingalls books to my 96 year old mother before she passed on. Although her eyesight was bad, she enjoyed hearing me read the stories. She grew up in KS so could relate to what Laura described in the books. I highly recommend all Laura Ingalls books.

I can’t get enough of the people from Beartown. Although I don’t think I could live in a place where winter was three-quarters of the year…brrr.Us Against You is bestselling author Fredrick Backman’s sequel to his novel Beartown. Both are MUST reads. That is all my review really needs to say: just listen to me, they do not disappoint.For those who need more convincing, well here goes:Us Against You brings back all the characters we love, or love to hate: Benji (my fav!), Amat, Bobo, the Andersson’s, Ana, Sune, the Lyft’s, Ramona…I can keep going but will stop it there. We are also introduced to politician Richard Theo who is reminiscent of Tommy Carcetti from HBO’s The Wire, the Rinnius’ Brothers Teemu & Vidar, and new head coach Zackell.This novel is about so much more than hockey, in fact there isn’t that much of it actually played. It focuses on the community’s handling of “the scandal” aftermath from Beartown: with politics muddling in and creating even more conflict between Beartown and Hed residents. You are either a Bear or a Bull and you hate the other for even existing. Families, friendships, secrets, the club…will never be the same. Trigger warning: there is a fair amount of fighting.Backman’s writing consists of simple sentences packed with punch: so much meaning with the right amount of build up: his writing style is brilliant!

I can't write a review that will do this book justice. There's so much to it. So many things to think about, so many characters to think about. I'm still in awe. Days later I'm still in Beartown, and I've figured out what's bothering me and has been ever since I finished the book: I don't want to leave. I want to stay and talk about it, I want so much to talk about it. And I'm frustrated and sad, because the only people I want to talk to about it, the people with whom I want soooo much to talk to about it, are all in the book. Over a coffee or a beer or one kind of whiskey. In the forest, in the rink, at the kennels, in the pub. They're part of my heart now. Frederik Backman, you amaze.

Each and every time I read a Backman book, I am amazed by his grasp of humanity and his ability to express what makes us wonderful and what makes us horrible. His characters are deep and broad, his settings are just enough to make us feel at home, and his stories are intricately woven tapestries. I don’t often think that I’d like to sit and share a beer with an author, but this guy makes me want to fly half way across the world and buy him one. If you haven’t read Beartown, you don’t have to do so in order to enjoy this book, but do yourself a favor and do it. You’ll never regret the time you spend on a Backman novel.

It was so sad to be at the end of this story. I lived with the various characters for days and now miss checking in with them each time I picked up the book. And it was really hard not to read the book all at once .Backman has such a grasp of the complexities and nuances of personalities and communities and the impulses that drive or pull us. The story is riveting, sometimes heartbreaking, a gem of a tale. Much to reflect on as we wonder about our own lives: what we do, why, how we see others, the choices we make..I first discovered Backman when a little bookstore had one of his books on display: My Grandmother Told Me to Tell You She Was Sorry. The title intrigued me. The writing style was unique and the story fetching. I then read all Backman's titles that were available. Us Against You was the last and the one I think touched me to the core. Very special.

This sequel to Beartown is every bit as insightful as the original. The author's ability to weave so many difficult and complex social issues into his stories is an artform unto itself. At a time when the world so desperately needs this kind of insight and wisdom, you could not better spend your time reading and thinking about what Backman brings to the table. I love the work of this author and hope it gathers a very wide audience. To do justice to this book, read Beartown first, this second.

I enjoyed Beartown so much that I bought 10 copies and game them to my child’s teachers and close friends. Therefore, I was nervous about the sequel. Would it let me down, after I raved about the first installment? NO IT DID NOT, in fact it was as good or even better than Beartown. Not sure why it’s not in the top 10 books (in terms of New York Times). I am not going to list all the characters and plots, as many of the other reviews did that. I will simply say Mr. Backman has a way with his words, which bring on strong emotion to one’s psyche. I could have read the entire novel in one sitting but made myself space it out over a week. By far the best book of 2018, just like Beartown was the best book of 2017. I pray there is a 3rd installment! I rarely (if ever) give 5 star reviews, but this author is in his OWN class.

Five star novel. I had previously read Beartown and thought it was outstanding. Us Against You is as good or better. Backman tells a compelling story featuring fully developed cast of characters. Novel simulates a sporting event in that the reader experiences the highs and lows of winning and losing. Book is full of surprises as the author brings the reader to the edge of a cliff, retrieves us and surprises us. Witty dialogue. Many unforeseen twists and turns. Strongly recommend both Beartown and Us Against You.I selected "Us Against You" as my book club selection for 7/19/18. Book was enjoyed by all participants of book club. Approximately half of the folks in the book club also read Beartown in preparation for the meeting.Definitely need a sequel. I eagerly await the follow-on novel featuring Alicia.

This sequel to Beartown was great. I found the political story line very intriguing and very true. The idea that conflicts create power and how to make that work for one's personal goals was well developed. His stories always show the best of people and the worst of people all in the same persons. Again, this story was not as light as his other books, but it was just as awesome in other ways.

Am only to March so far, but am mostly liking the calendar. Though to be honest am seeing a bit much regarding Kahn, let's hope the rest of the year goes somewhere else. (I hope that April is't the fight in the Mutara Nebula)Though I must admit, what is the point of leaving a review of this product. Not like it's going to matter next year. Heck, who is looking for a calendar past March anyway?Hmm, just found out you can use this calendar in 2023, maybe my review will be relevant. And since the title follows the body of the text when your filling out this review, I now have a title.

Great renderings of the ships ... it is more for display than for a useful calendar ... it hangs horizontal with the pictures going across both sections ... the calendar is small and in the corner ... no space to write in or highlight the days ... of course, since the purpose is to feature the artwork, this is fine if you don't need the calendar for any practical use other than see what day it is ... I like it for the artwork, but it gets 3 stars due to its lacking as a real calendar ...

This was ok, except more like a poster book than a calendar. The pages consisted of large image spreads with only a tiny corner of the page set aside as the month's calendar. No place to make notes of dates or anything!

I have only two thoughts that might improve this line of calendars. I would love to see them make the calendar in a vertical format. The horizontal is hard to hang and hard to find space for. Also, I'd love a small, six-inch (or so) version... Always love the artwork!!

I purchase the "Ships of the Line" calendar every year. I love the art. Once the year is over, I display my favorite month on my "Star Trek" wall. in my home office.

The calendar was 3X4 too small to read from 3 feet away. the picture takes up the whole page. you just have to be happy with only picture; because if you bought the calendar for a calendar then it's a complete rip-off. So basically a complete rip-off.

Very fun to hang at the office. This is my fifth year purchasing the Star Trek Ships of the Line calendar. I love displaying my Trekkie-ness and I enjoy the discussions that it spawns from visitors to my office.

His albums as a solo artist and as front man for the Newfoundland Celtic-rock band Great Big Sea have sold over a million copies, and he has starred in such features as Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and CBC's Republic of Doyle. I've been to Newfoundland 5 times Labrador 3 and I'd recommend a trip to either as long as you're not expecting Disneyland or some other tourist stunt. On one of the trips we encountered a Great Big Sea cassette and have been following the group ever since and Alan Doyle since the group broke up. We've seen all the shows here in Chicago where we live which is probably at least 10. Anyway this book is hilarious especially in the Kindle version up to section 898 which had me laughing until there tears started. The rest of the book is pretty good too. You can learn a lot about the Canadian prairie provinces but more important the truly wonderful people of Newfoundland both locals and expats. Need a 6th trip and Alan when are you coming back to Chicago. We miss you man

I spent 2 1/2 years living in Argentia, Newfoundland -stationed at the former US Navy base. Although it was at a time well before GBS when Alan was just a lad, the music of his band, the stories bring back so many fond memories of the Rock! You make a friend with a Newfoundlander, you have made a friend for life. This book helps you understand that through the sharing of their true culture through music. I first saw GBS in 2006 in Portland, Maine and twice after and Alan’s band twice as well. I hope there is a third book to talk about their travels to the States and to help us understand the eventual break up of the band. Hoping it is just a hiatus and we will see a reunion tour soon.

I've been a fan of GREAT Big Sea for decades and was sad when they broke up. But now through Alan's eyes I get some insight into a bit of their background and their climb "to the top". And at the same time learned a little about Newfoundland & Petty Harbor. I'd love to visit there one day. Thank you Alan for sharing this story...your music still makes me smile sing & dance!

As a Newfoundlander myself who left the island to work in Canada,all the way from Corner Brook to Calgary with many stops along the way. I have enjoyed his colourful stories of his adventures.He gives a positive take on the trials and tribulations of our integration into Canadian society.Like Alan I am proud to be a Newfie

Who happens to have an outsize musical talent. For those from the States, his discovery and presentation of the diversity of Canadian culture and language is enlightening. His constant cheeriness and optimism in the face of adversity is contagious. I haven’t been to Newfoundland in 30 years but this book makes me want to go back.

I love Great Big Sea, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the story of their beginning on George St. in St.Johns' s, Newfoundland through their first across Canada tour.

Not only is Alan a wonderful musician, but he's a great storyteller. The book follows the beginnings of his career which is told through funny, charming, and genuine stories. It was a great read.

Great and funny reading. Lots of talent of life experience from this man!
