About the Author

David J. Peterson was born in Long Beach, California in 1981. He attended UC Berkeley from 1999 to 2003, and received a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Linguistics. He then attended UC San Diego from 2003 to 2006, where he received an M.A. in Linguistics. He's been creating languages since 2000, and working on the HBO original series Game of Thrones since 2009. In 2011, he became the alien language and culture consultant for the Syfy original series Defiance. In 2013, he joined the crew of the CW's Star-Crossed and also Syfy's Dominion as a language creator. In 2007, he helped to found the Language Creation Society, of which David has remained a proud member. I purchased this for my husband for a gift for Father's Day. He is a huge Game of Thrones fan and of course I am sure due to her looks his favorite character is Dothraki.This is a small little book with a CD, It gives a background on how the language was created. The book is much smaller then I thought it would be. It is more of a pamphlet then a book. Looking at it I thought it was a hardcover book, but it is not. The CD is great as my husband can listen to it when he is on the go.it is a nice conversation piece or nice piece just to add to your Game of Thrones collection. It is really a neat little book.

I gave this to a friend whom speaks numerous languages and he love it! I'm fascinated by how easy it was for him to learn Dothraki and I really enjoy hearing it spoken. Yep! I'm a nerdy geek.

Very happy with this. It isn't a hard lesson, it just takes repetition. The CD and book work well together and help me understand how to say what Im trying to say.

I cannot describe the contents since it was purchased as a gift for someone else. They said they loved it.

I’ve been in Corporate America for the last twenty years in various sales roles in the technology industry and recently decided it was time for a change. After reviewing several books available on the franchise industry, I bought The Educated Franchisee 3rd Edition. If you’ve never had exposure to the franchising opportunity, Rick’s book walks readers step by step thru a very logical and easy to understand due diligence process to assist the reader in sizing up a franchisor. Of equal importance, Rick has several self-discovery chapters that were instrumental in describing the human traits needed to achieve success in franchising. Two months after purchasing The Educated Franchisee, with Rick working as our coach, we signed a franchise agreement and are working on the initial stages of deployment.

My husband and I are exploring franchise opportunities, and I read this book to get insight into the world of franchising. I highly recommend it!!! It lays a great foundation with a very holistic approach. Bisio talks about the personality traits of a successful franchisee, the pros/cons of being a business owner, how to approach the process, and how to choose the right franchise. When we did start the process, we were already 5 steps ahead, as a result of this book. And, best of all, I reached out to Rick Bisio directly to ask a question, and he scheduled a call with me. Very impressive!

Rick Bisio’s no nonsense approach is exceptional. The facts and specifics are what I appreciated most about this extremely helpful guide to exploring the franchise option. The book was highly recommended by a franchise coach, and from the beginning I understood why. Furthermore, the fact that one must still think for one’s self is stressed. The book isn’t, “a guaranteed success” formula. It reminded me all the more that we, the franchisee, are the true success formula. It takes a good logical understanding, sticking to the proven system, discipline, humility, and a whole lot of sweat equity/hard work to be successful at this endeavor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK for the aspiring franchisee.

During meets I can demonstrate that I understand how the franchise relationship works, which places me at an advantage compared with people who have not read the book. I am currently searching opportunities and hope to find the right one soon. This book has helped me enormously and directed me in the right path.

Happy to see that this isn't a story about someone bitter with religious life and with the Church. It is more a reflection on the times and the lack of real formation, human, spiritual, intellectual, needed to live religious life happily. Given the fact that she spent about 6 years with the Benedictines I do wonder why she thinks the founder was St. Francis! Such a glaring mistake does make me wonder!This story is written in a conversational and personal way. At times it was tedious and I skipped forward.This is a gliimpse, both intriguing and sad of a past era of young women entering religious life. What struck me is that while some things don't change in religious life---prayer, vows, obedience, community--how all that is done and the women who enter are vastly different today.

Full disclosure, we know and love Renee, so we were prepared to love the book, and we did. I have read it through and my husband is reading it now. I'll read it again. As a cradle-Catholic, I identified with her desire to live a life as a nun -- most little Catholic girls fantasize about what it would be like, especially those, like me, who are mostly educated by admired and (mostly) loved nuns. Renee told her story so that it was easy to know what her life was like. I would like to see a sequel. She's had an interesting life.

Goes to show, human beings are human whether living secular lives or trying to imitate our Lord on a minute to minute basis. We are all flawed, some more than others. To the nuns who gave Sister Bridget such a hard time, shame on you. But there are more good sisters in a convent than not. It took enormous courage for this woman to endure the rigors of becoming a nun. It is expressed beautifully and in heart wrenching detail in this book. It was truly enlightening to have a window on what cloistered life looks and feels like. I hope time has brought some much needed changes. Thank you to all the "good sisters" who sacrifice beyond our knowing all over the world.

I have read many books by women who left religious life. I find many are very bitter. That is not the case. Mrs. Dearborn was honest. Life had its ups and downs. She handled all phases of her sojourn with intelligence, dignity and humor. This was a very interesting and informative book. Thank you

Suddenly "The Rule of St. Benedict" became the "Rule of St. Francis" in one or two places and also "Sister Benedict" suddenly became "Sister Josephine" when the author and another nun were helping at an impoverished parish. Also at this same parish the priest said Mass after lunch which was odd as back in those days one had to be fasting after midnight in order to receive Communion so Mass would have been said before lunch. In order to enter religious life in 1948, 68 years ago, the author would have to be in her late 80's so it is remarkable she remembers numerous complete long conversations from so long ago. Am not making any accusations - there is just something "off" about this story although for the most part it seems true enough. Personally I think a lot of it was made up while still being based on this woman's experiences from long ago. Sort of like a historical novel based on a real person.

I loved it. I really enjoyed the way she writes, it was like listening to a good friend telling the story. I always wondered what it would be like to enter a convent and what would lead up to the decision. She took me on an honest, emotional journey that taught me so much. I want a sequel telling what happened after she left the convent. She is a remarkable woman.

I loved this. It reminded me of my mom who told stories just like this of her many years at attempted convent life in that same time period only in the Northwest. Moments of hilarity and moments to savor and ponder. Tender. Very well written.

So glad I read this book.At first (initial assumption), this book was about trends in the nutrition industry, foods best to consume, health exploration concerning food, or other information along those lines.It is unlike any thing I’ve read or studied regarding food.Instead it explores the journey of us, and food. Where it started, where we are now, as it relates to our continuing relationship with food. (Yes we do have a relationship with food!)I learned many historical facts traveling through this journey. The role of food, what we want, expect, and the price we are paying through industry, government and natural resources for our food.As someone very interested in nutrition, I found myself thinking about a completely different side of the food equation and it’s role in my life.Information is based upon years of personal experience, stories and professional work both here in the states and internationally.Referenced well, especially when drawing upon historical facts.

This is a scientifically-sound, groundbreaking, and revelatory. Walker, a food scientist (with a PhD in agricultural economics), lays out our (typically unhealthy) relationship with food, and its affects. Hopefully this book will be a catalyst for positive change on individual, governmental, and corporate levels.
