Elsayed A. Elsayed, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Rutgers University, and the Director of the NSF/Industry/University Co-operative Research Center for Quality and Reliability Engineering. He is the recipient of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Fellow Award, an ASME Fellow, the Senior Fulbright Award, and the 2011 Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award. He is a coauthor of Quality Engineering in Production Systems and the author of Reliability Engineering, which received the 1990 and 1997 IIE/Joint Publishers Book-of-the-Year Award respectively.

Outstanding book on this subject.Has a great mix of theory and practice.Possibly not the best book for an introduction but is an excellent reference book after you know the basics. (Though you can learn the basics with this book too).
I am using my iPad to read the Kindle version of "Reliability Engineer." The resolution of the equations is extremely poor. Some equations are unreadable. When I highlight text, the text losses contrast and is difficult to read. Overall, the book appears to be an excellent reference, but the Kindle version has limited utility.
Great Product
This is an updated and expanded version of Reliability Engineering (Prentice Hall, 1996). I have read both versions. This is an excellent textbook with several reasons:(1) This book covers all important contents necessary for the reliability engineering course(2) This book is an in-depth text on those areas involved, unlike many other reliability books which only mention some basic concepts without further details(3) This book reflects recent advance in reliability theory and engineering since the author has been involved in reliability research for so many years. In this sense, this is a new book. You will see some latest results published in recent journals and conference proceedings in this book.(4) It has many practical exercise problems and solutions(5) This book is outstanding in explaining what reliability engineering and analysis is all about, in well-organized, well-written, and ordinary language(6) This book has been used as textbook for many years and the updated version is a big improvement and enhance for classroom use.In addition, this book also is a good reference book for engineers. It contain many practical problems and is written in a practical way. Another excellent part of this book is that its 9 case studies are practical with great details. So I highly recommend this book as textbook for school students and reference book for engineers. It is one of the best books on this suject.
This book is relatively comprehensive in documenting probability distribution functions and some of the modeling approaches for reliability systems as well as redundancy, but it is superficial in developing the ideas from first principles. The text would offer more if it developed some of the methods rather than simply stating them in passing.
